What is a VC
a venture capital firm is a company that invests into high growth startups. most of the money they collect comes from LPs. so for the most part they do NOT invest their own money. firms that only invest their own money are called family offices.
Accelerators
this is a subgroup of VCs that specialize in investing right at the birth of a startup. so either at the pre-seed or seed stage. what differentiates them from other venture capital funds is that accelerators usually also have a program around the investment. founders can learn the basics of starting a company and are connected with the right people.
accelerators should accelerate a startup. duh
Some examples of accelerators are:
- Y-Combinator
- EWOR (the accelerator I am part of with my startup Helmit)
